Leaders from Macclesfield RSPB Wildlife Explorers celebrated more than the festive season at their Christmas meal. A number of volunteers received 5 year long service awards. Susan and Tim Wilson, both from Rainow and Julian Hanak from Sutton all received recognition for their volunteering. In key roles for the group Tim serves as Treasurer and following several years as Craft Co-ordinator Susan has just taken over the role of Webmaster. A massive THANK YOU to all of you who supported our cake sale this evening. We sold out by the end of the night (the last few cakes were snapped up for our Leaders’ party). A quick count reveals that we made over £50 which will pay for raw materials for our nestbox session in the Goyt Valley in the spring. December 1st marked the end of National Tree Week and was also the date that Wildlife Explorers chose for their annual tree dressing event in Tytherington Woods. The group celebrated the historical, cultural and wildlife value of trees by getting creative, using natural materials to make incredible clay sculpures and decorations for the trees. Explorers took inspiration from the woodland wildlife, the season and The RSPB’s campaign ‘Giving Nature a Home’.
