Leaders from Macclesfield RSPB Wildlife Explorers and Martin James, Ranger at Teggs Nose Nose, will be Leading a family birdwatching session during the Easter holidays. Monday April 14th 2014 10am -12 noon FREE OF CHARGE We’ll be walking round Teggs Nose Country Park looking for resident species and possibly spotting some of the first migrant arrivals. Coming at the very start of the season our March meeting was packed with springtime activities! Wildlife Explorers learned all about the reasons that birds build nests and the properties of the materials they select to make them. Volunteer Adam tested twigs to see if they were comfortable. He concluded that they were more comfortable when they were layered with something softer too! Wildlife Explorers, Phoenix, members of the RSPB Local Group and representatives of the South Cheshire Ringing Group headed to Buxton Opera House to join Chris Packham for a ‘Wild Night Out’. In an entertaining and informative evening Chris covered a wide range of subjects from living with predators to the problems photographing cheetahs and pond skaters on the move. Never one to avoid the controversial topics in conservation he also touched on the issues surrounding the reintroducing of beavers, wolves and lynx as well as the imagined threat from foxes, the badger cull, the persecution of raptors and yes……….Pandas. … Click here for more information…..
A team from Macclesfield RSPB Wildlife Explorers tackled very muddy conditions to put up nestboxes made at the last outdoor meeting for the Goyt Valley. A total of 20 boxes have now been erected and will count towards Wildlife Explorers’ target of 1,000 new homes for wildlife to be made during this year in support of The RSPB’s ‘Giving Nature a Home’ campaign. The nestboxes will benefit a range of birds during this year’s breeding season in the Peak Park beauty spot.
